Ler Hock Chuan Ler Hock Chuan ÂÀ¸£Èª Born 1966 in Singapore. Ler Hock Chuan was trained in Fine Art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore and has developed a practice in oils and watercolours. Hock Chuan has participated in numerous exhibitions and has acquired significant awards and commendations such as the First Prize in the Philippe Charriol Contemporary art Competition (1994) as well as the distinction award in the UOB Painting of the Year Competition (1999). His oil paintings in the late 1990s produced crusty, opaque and rugged surface effects on canvas by his thick paint application. His watercolour paintings, on the other hand, displayed loose and fluid treatments that emphasize vibrancy and translucence.
