
21 st Asian International Art Exhibition "21" hosted by Singapore features more than 178 paintings, sculptures, digital photographs and video works by important artists from 13 Asian countries/regions. Since 1985, the Asian International Art Exhibition (AIAE) has become an important platform for the promotion of art and cultural exchange among Asian countries. The title of the exhibition reflects not only the number of successful presentations but also the theme - 21st century - to highlight the artistic responses to the globalized environment of today. Singapore will be represented by 40 important and prominent artists including Cultural Medallion and Young Artist Awardees. Among them are Wee Beng Chong, Tay Chee Toh, Chua Ek Kay, Thomas Yeo, Ho Ho Ying, Baet Yeok Kuan, Lim Poh Teck, Hong Sek Chern and Chua Say Hua. The exhibition will take place in three venues with the Singapore Art Museum showcasing artists from South East Asia; Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam. The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts galleries will features artists from North East Asia; China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and Mongolia. The third venue, epSITE will present New Media Art by artists from Singapore, China, Thailand and Macau. The official opening will be held at the Singapore Art Museum on Wednesday, 19 July, at 6pm. Alongside the exhibition is a list of related events; a symposium on contemporary art in Asia; Artist talks and a children¡¯s art exhibition presented by NAFA¡¯s Junior Art department.
